Fail-fast within compliance
Tension. Marketing innovation depends on rapid experimentation — small bets, fast feedback, willingness to scrap ideas that don't move metrics. Regulated industries (healthcare, finance, insurance) cannot ship freely; every customer touch may trigger compliance review.
Resolution. "One experiment is worth a thousand expert opinions" — but the infrastructure must contain the appropriate checks and controls for the industry. Fail-fast is about velocity within the compliance envelope, not about ignoring it (source.cdp-recommendation-agent-md).
Implementation.
- Make compliance checks part of the platform, not an afterthought (consent, suppression, content review tied into the activation pipeline).
- Reserve "fail-fast" for the optimization layer — message wording, send timing, segment composition — where reversibility is high.
- For changes that touch consent or new data uses, treat experimentation as a compliance-gated workstream, not a free-running A/B test.
Why this matters for CDP architecture. The CDP's role is to make compliance machine-enforceable. A platform that requires manual compliance review at activation time will throttle experimentation. A platform that encodes consent and suppression as policy frees experimentation by removing the manual step.
