AdExchanger — Freshpaint Healthcare Privacy Platform Profile

Context
Freshpaint originally launched in 2019 as a general customer data platform. After early traction in healthcare, and following the FTC's 2022 crackdown on digital health companies sharing patient personal information, Freshpaint repositioned as a healthcare-specific privacy platform.
Key Capabilities
- HIPAA Identifier Blocking: Prevents sharing of patient names, digital IDs, addresses, and ZIP codes with downstream analytics and advertising tools.
- User ID Deidentification: Anonymous masking for analytics tracking without PII exposure.
- Video Embedding: Enables YouTube/Vimeo embeds without sharing visitor IP addresses to Google/Meta.
- Third-Party Tracker Scanning: Monitors and blocks unauthorized tracker data flows.
- Safety-by-Default Architecture: All sensitive health data is restricted from flowing to downstream partners until a marketer explicitly grants permission per destination — the inverse of typical permissive-by-default analytics tools.
Market Context
The FTC's 2022 guidance created a market gap: healthcare organizations needed to continue data-driven marketing while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Freshpaint's approach enables regulated data use rather than complete shutdown of digital marketing programs.
CDP Positioning
Freshpaint's head of marketing described it as a "recovering CDP" — the product retains data routing infrastructure but pivots the value proposition entirely to compliance enablement, not data unification or audience activation in the traditional CDP sense.
