Owns the integration layer between the CDP or CDW and Email Service Providers: API-based send requests, list uploads, suppression-list synchronization, bounce and complaint feedback-loop processing, deliverability monitoring, and domain authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC). Also owns transactional email pipelines for Inter-page-tier use cases such as password reset and order confirmation.
Compliance dimension. This team is typically accountable for ensuring suppression lists (unsubscribes, regulatory opt-outs, bounces) are propagated to the ESP before any send — a hard requirement under CAN-SPAM and GDPR. Architecture decisions that introduce latency into this propagation (e.g., slow reverse-ETL syncs from the CDW to the ESP) create compliance exposure. The CDP architecture must guarantee near-real-time suppression propagation.
When this team is absent. Packaged CDPs that bundle ESP-equivalent activation reduce the staff this function requires. Composable stacks with CDW-to-ESP reverse-ETL pipelines require this team to maintain the pipelines and monitor deliverability.
