Tealium is an enterprise CDP with origins in tag management (iQ) and real-time data collection (EventStream, AudienceStream). Gartner Magic Quadrant Challenger for CDPs in 2026 — moved from Leader in the prior cycle; this repositioning reflects competitive pressure from AI-native and warehouse-native CDP entrants. Vendor-domain product documentation sources used for product-fact only (capabilities, integration count, 2026 new features) — see web-refresh-bias-flags.md FLAG 2.
Key capabilities (from product documentation).
- AudienceStream: server-side visitor profiling, real-time audience segmentation, 1,400+ connector actions.
- iQ Tag Management: client-side data collection with consent-layer integration.
- 2026 additions: Databricks connector for ML/AI enrichment, BigQuery/Redshift/Databricks table imports (near-real-time or scheduled), improved audience sizing. Real-time Snowflake table streaming (under 10 seconds): AudienceStream can stream data directly into Snowflake tables in near-real-time, enabling Snowflake to serve as both the source-of-truth CDW and a sub-10-second activation target. This tightens the latency gap between composable warehouse-native CDPs and Tealium's packaged-CDP architecture for Snowflake-centric buyers.
- Server-side identity resolution: deterministic and probabilistic matching across anonymous and known identifiers.
Consent integration. Tealium's data layer natively tracks consent signals from CMP platforms (OneTrust, Cookiebot, etc.), making it a natural fit for GDPR/CCPA-compliance-first organizations. Consent state can propagate to suppression logic at the AudienceStream action level — architecturally cleaner than post-hoc batch suppression in some composable stacks.
Where it fits. Organizations prioritizing real-time server-side data collection and consent management as first-class platform features, particularly those moving away from client-side tag proliferation. Organizations operating CDW-centric data strategies can use IYOM to invoke CDW-trained models from within Tealium's activation layer, retaining CDW ownership of model training while Tealium owns real-time activation and consent-gated delivery. Tealium still maintains a proprietary profile store — it is not a warehouse-native CDP in the Hightouch/Fivetran-Activations sense — but the prior constraint on CDW-centric architectures is substantially reduced.
AI capability suite (May 2026).
AI at the Edge. High-performance native mobile SDK enables on-device data transformations and edge AI inference without requiring app store releases. Consent-aware processing happens at the edge before data reaches Tealium or third-party destinations.
AI Decisioning + IYOM. Tealium runs decisioning on live event streams — generating instant churn scores, product affinities — and feeds outputs directly into customer profiles and activation flows. IYOM (Invoke Your Own Model) allows organizations to trigger their own models in their own data cloud or AI environment (e.g., BigQuery ML, Databricks MLflow) and activate results in real time across Tealium's 1,400+ connector actions. IYOM materially changes Tealium's position in CDW-centric stacks: the CDW can own AI model training and scoring; Tealium owns real-time activation. This is architecturally different from warehouse-native CDPs — Tealium still maintains a proprietary profile store — but the CDW-exclusion concern that characterized prior evaluations is substantially mitigated.
Configuration Agent (MCP). An MCP-powered agent bridges strategy and execution: teams can configure Tealium directly from AI assistants (Claude, Gemini, OpenAI) via natural-language prompts. Human-in-the-loop approval gates are required for all final deployments.
AI Partner Ecosystem. Bi-directional Amazon Bedrock connectors, Pinecone vector retrieval, and LangChain agent orchestration. Enables Tealium to act as the real-time, consented data context layer for enterprise RAG pipelines and LLM agent workflows.
